A custom bathroom vanity is usually a homeowner’s first custom cabinetry purchase, which makes it the best place to learn how custom pricing actually works. No two quotes describe the same object, so instead of numbers, here is the anatomy of a vanity quote: every factor, what it buys you, and where the money hides. The Anatomy of a Vanity Quote
- Width and configuration. A powder-room single and a double with a linen tower are different animals. Every added bank of drawers is joinery, hardware, and finishing time.
- Drawers versus doors. Dovetail drawer banks cost more than doors and win every morning after: bathroom storage lives in drawers. This is the factor we least recommend trimming.
- Species and finish. Painted poplar or maple is the baseline; white oak sits above it, walnut above that. Bathrooms punish cheap finishes, so the sprayed conversion varnish is non-negotiable in our shop regardless of color.
- Mounting. Floating vanities look weightless because hidden steel and wall blocking carry the weight. That engineering is real and it is in the price.
- The room’s honesty. Out-of-square walls, sloped floors, and plumbing where the drawings said it would not be: old-house conditions add fitting time. We plan for them; surprise versions cost more than declared ones.
- What is not in the cabinetry number. Stone top, sink, and faucet come through the fabricator and plumber. We coordinate all of it, and you should expect any honest quote to draw that line clearly.
Clients try to save money on the drawer boxes because nobody sees them. Wrong place. Save on the width, save on the stone, keep the dovetails. You touch those drawers ten times a day for twenty years.
