Custom Built-In Entertainment Center

If you have ever looked at your living room and felt like something was missing, you are probably right. A freestanding TV stand does the job, but it rarely feels intentional. A custom built-in entertainment center changes that completely. It turns a wall into a focal point, adds real storage, and gives the room a sense of permanence that you just cannot buy at a furniture store.

This project is one of our recent builds in southeastern Pennsylvania. The homeowners came to us with a clear vision: a bold, full-wall built-in with plenty of storage and a clean spot for their television. What we delivered was a blue painted Amish-crafted wall unit with shaker doors, full overlay construction, and solid hardwood throughout.

If you are somewhere in Lancaster County, Chester County, Philadelphia, or the surrounding area, and you have been thinking about a similar project, keep reading. We will walk you through what went into this build and what you should know before starting your own.

Built for Function and Real Life

The most common complaint we hear about living rooms is clutter. Gaming controllers, streaming boxes, remotes, books, board games, kids’ stuff. A well-designed built-in wall unit solves this quietly, without making the room feel like a storage unit.

This particular entertainment center was designed with a few specific goals in mind:

  • Tall flanking cabinets on both sides for books, games, and media equipment hidden behind closed doors
  • Lower shaker-style cabinets that keep the base of the room tidy and clutter-free
  • Integrated TV framing so the screen feels like part of the wall, not an afterthought sitting on a table
  • Premium hardware and full overlay doors for a finished, intentional look that holds up over time

Every cabinet in this build is made from solid hardwood, not MDF or particleboard. That matters more than it sounds. Solid wood holds screws, handles humidity changes, and looks just as good after ten years as it does on day one. We have customers who first worked with us in the 1990s whose cabinets still look brand new.

Amish Craftsmanship Meets Modern Design

We have been building cabinets in Honey Brook, Pennsylvania since 1979. That is over 45 years of working with wood, and it shows in the details most people do not notice at first glance: the way the doors sit flush, the way the drawers close softly, the way the finish holds its color in direct sunlight.

What makes Amish woodworking different is not the tools. It is the standard. Our craftsmen hand-fit every face frame, build every drawer box by hand, and cut dovetail joints individually before assembling the cabinet. Nothing is rushed. Nothing is mass-produced.

For this entertainment center, we combined those traditional techniques with a very modern design choice: a deep, bold blue paint finish in a custom Sherwin-Williams color. The result is something that feels both timeless and fresh at the same time. The clean shaker lines keep it from feeling trendy, while the color gives it personality.

How the Process Works

A lot of people assume that getting a custom built-in is complicated or takes forever. It is actually pretty straightforward when you work with a team that has done it hundreds of times.

Here is what the process looks like from your first call to the final installation:

  1. Consultation and measurement. We visit your home or you come to our 6,000 sq ft showroom in Honey Brook to talk through your space, style, and budget. We measure the wall and discuss what the built-in needs to do.
  2. Design and approval. Our team creates a detailed CAD drawing and 3D rendering so you can see exactly what the finished piece will look like before we build a single thing. You can make changes at this stage without any extra cost.
  3. Production. Once you approve the design, we build it in our 20,000 sq ft facility in Honey Brook. Every part is cut, fitted, assembled, and finished by hand. Production typically takes 6 to 10 weeks.
  4. Installation. Our installation crew handles everything from delivery to final leveling and touch-ups. We do not hand you a flat-pack and walk away.

Why Pennsylvania Homeowners Choose Custom Built-Ins

Homeowners across Lancaster, Chester County, Reading, Harrisburg, York, and Philadelphia come to us for built-ins for a few consistent reasons.

First, every room is different. A freestanding unit designed for a standard 10-foot wall will not work in a room with a fireplace on one side and a window on the other. A custom built-in is measured and built specifically for your space, which means no awkward gaps, no exposed sides, and no furniture that looks like it was placed there by accident.

Second, the storage is actually useful. When you design the interior yourself, you get shelves at the right height, drawers deep enough for what you are storing, and doors that open without hitting the couch. It sounds obvious, but most furniture does not give you that.

Third, the long-term value. A well-built entertainment center adds real value to a home in southeastern Pennsylvania. It is one of the things buyers notice and remember during showings. Unlike trends that come and go, solid hardwood cabinetry is something buyers see as an upgrade, not a liability.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a custom built-in entertainment center cost?

A standard wall unit from our shop typically starts around $3,500 to $5,000 for a single-wall design and can reach $12,000 or more for a larger, full-wall installation with specialty finishes, glass doors, or integrated lighting. The best way to get an accurate number is to request a free quote with your dimensions and design preferences.

How long does the whole process take?

From your first consultation to the completed installation, most projects take between 8 and 12 weeks. Production itself is 6 to 10 weeks once you approve the design. We will give you a specific timeline when we talk through your project.

Can you match a specific paint color or wood stain?

Yes. We work with the full Sherwin-Williams color library for painted finishes and can match virtually any stain color for natural wood finishes. If you have a specific shade in mind, bring a swatch or a paint chip to your consultation and we will work from there.

Do you install throughout Pennsylvania?

We install across all of southeastern and central Pennsylvania, including Lancaster County, Chester County, Philadelphia, York, Harrisburg, Lebanon, and Reading. We also deliver to 20 states for customers who handle their own installation.

Is the cabinetry really Amish-made?

Yes. Choice Custom Cabinetry and Design was founded in 1979 by Levi Stoltzfus and is today run by his sons Steve and Leo out of our facility in Honey Brook, PA, in the heart of Lancaster County. Our craftsmen hand-build every cabinet using the same techniques the shop was founded on. You can learn more on our about page.
